• A
part of Traditional Chinese Medicine,
acupuncture is a Complementary Healing
System. Based on the principles of
Energy Meridians and Points anatomically
located on the body, Acupuncture is
a panacea for Well-Being & treating
many disorders.

More
about acupuncture -
There is a universal
life energy called Chi or Qi present
in every living creature. This energy
is said to circulate throughout the
body along specific pathways that
are called meridians. As long as this
energy flows freely throughout the
meridians, health is maintained, but
once the flow of energy is blocked,
the system is disrupted and pain and
illness occur. Imagine rivers that
flood and cause disasters or an electrical
grid short-circuiting that causes
blackouts. Acupuncture works to “re-program”
and restore normal functions by stimulating
certain points on the meridians in
order to free up the Chi energy.
According to scientific studies Acupuncture
also gives benefits by secretion of
various neurotransmitters in the body
which govern all the body functions
eg. serotonin, catecholamines, inorganic
chemicals and amino acids such as
glutamate and -aminobutyric acid (GABA)
etc. These neurotransmitters are proposed
to mediate certain cardiovascular,
systemic and analgesic effects of
acupuncture. Acupuncture blocks the
pain in neural pathways too (Gate
Control Theory)
Evidence from neuroimaging studies-
Acupuncture appears to have distinct
effects on cortical activity, as demonstrated
by MRI (magnetic resonance imaging)
and PET (positron emission tomography).[3]
Researchers from the University of
Southampton, UK and Purpan
Hospital of Toulouse, France, summarize
the literature:
Investigating Acupuncture Using Brain
Imaging Techniques:
The Current State of Play:
George T. Lewith,
Peter J. White and Jeremie Pariente.
"We have systematically researched
and reviewed the literature looking
at the effect of acupuncture on brain
activation as measured by functional
magnetic resonance imaging and positron
emission tomography. These studies
show that specific and largely predictable
areas of brain activation and deactivation
occur when considering the traditional
Chinese functions attributable to
certain specific acupuncture points.
For example, points associated with
hearing and vision stimulates the
visual and auditory cerebral areas
respectively."
The
diseases which can be treated with
Acupuncture are divided into 3 major
categories :
•
Painful disorders, in which pain is
the main symptom:
- Headache, Migraine, Trigeminal neuralgia,
Low back pain, Sciatica, Arthritis,
Tennis Elbow, Periarthritis Humeroscapularis,
Cervical Spondylosis, Muscle Spasms,
Intercostal Neuralgia, Dysmenorrhea,
• Sciatica, Low back pain, Rheumatoid
arthritis, Herpes Zoster.
• Psychosomatic disorders
- Insomnia, Fatigue, Sexual Disturbances,
Gastritis, Constipation, Irritable
Bowel Disease, Stress Related Disorders,
Bronchial Asthma, Addictions (drugs-alcohol-nicotine-obesity),
Enuresis, Eczema, Psoriasis, Meniere's
syndrome
• Paresis and Paralysis
- Facial Paresis, Stroke, Facial paralysis,
Paralysis after apoplectic fit, Peripheral
neuropathy, Paralysis caused by poliomyelitis
WORLD
HEALTH ORGANIZATION
- also suggests acupuncture for these
conditions
Bronchopulmonary Diseases like- Acute
bronchitis, Bronchial asthma
